Around two thousand years back four major Shaktipeethas were established for achieving advanced excellence in the field of Tantra. These places were Jalandhar Peeth, Kamakhya Peetha, Poorna Giri Peeth and Udyan Peetha( उड्यान पीठ).

These peethas are the special places which have deep subtle connection with Divine realm and Bhava realm.

Out of these fours places Udyaan Peeth was the oldest. Odisa(Orissa) previous name was Udyaan only, which became Odisa later only. Actually it is Uddisa in Hindi.

Also there is knot(bandh) in yoga called Udyaan ( उड्यान ), In this ‘bandha'(knot) the stomach is pulled in towards back, while breathing out completely.

Present day capital Bhuvaneshwar’s name also comes from the one of the Mahavidyas Bhuvaneshwari Devi in tantra.

It is obvious that Odisa was a vibrating center for Tantra and yoga in ancient times. Even today you will find various important Hindu religious places and temples across Odisaa state.
