Krishnabai Temple, Mahabaleshwar
This is ancient Krishnabai temple in Mahabaleshwar. Maharashtra, Beauty is serene in rainy season .
This age old temple dedicated to holy River Krishna. The temple as a Shivalingam and a beautiful statue of goddess Krishna. There is a Kunda(small tank of water) where river Krishna is flowing from a cow mouth shaped structure(Gomukha) as a very small stream. (see pic) . Beautifully stone carved columns and ceiling are the special attraction at this temple.
Krishnabai Temple is said to be source of the Krishna River. Current temple was built in 1888 by ruler of Ratnagiri. The temple sits atop a hill top which offers enchanting views of the Krishna river valley and surrounding countryside. To reach here, there is a small and well-marked trail that leads to Krishnabai temple, right from behind Panch Ganga temple . It is less frequented by tourists as it is isolated but it provides a most exquisite view of the river Krishna.
This is my favorite place at Mahabaleshwar. The temple itself is serene and peaceful, you would not want to leave the place. There are no lights inside the temple. As the sun rises the sun rays directly hit the shrine inside. Offers amazing view of the Krishna river valley.
