एक संवाद श्री नेहरू जी और श्री सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल के बीच

सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल :- ‘‘नेहरू जी आइये रिक्शा में बैठ लीजिए !’’ 
जवाहर लाल नेहरू :- ‘‘नहीं पटेल जी हम खान साहब से जरूरी बातें कर रहे हैं।’’
सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल :- ‘‘ऐसी क्या जरूरी बाते हैं?
जवाहर लाल नेहरू :- ‘‘यह पाकिस्तान जाने की जिद किए हुए हैं, हम चाहते हैं कि भारत में ही रहें।’’
सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल :- ‘‘तो जाने क्यों नहीं देते, फिर पाकिस्तान बनवाया ही किसलिए।’’
जवाहर लाल नेहरू :- ‘‘वह तो ठीक है, लेकिन इनके साथ पांच लाख मुस्लिम और पाकिस्तान चले जाएंगे।’’
सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल :- ‘‘तो जाने दीजिए।’’
जवाहर लाल नेहरू :- ‘‘लेकिन दिल्ली तो खाली हो जाएगी।
सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल :- ‘‘जो लाहौर से हिन्दू आएंगे उनसे भर जाएगी।’’
जवाहर लाल नेहरू :- ‘‘नहीं उन्हें मुस्लिमों के घर हम नहीं देंगे, वक्फ बोर्ड को सौंप देंगे।’’
सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल :- ‘‘और लाहौर में जो अभी से मंदिर और डीएवी स्कूल पर कब्जा कर उनके नाम इस्लामिक रख दिए हैं।
जवाहर लाल नेहरू :- ‘’पाकिस्तान से हमे क्या लेना-देना, हम तो भारत को धर्मनिरपेक्ष देश बनाएंगे।’’
सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल :- ‘‘लेकिन देश का बंटवारा तो धर्म के आधार पर हुआ है।अब यह हिन्दुस्तान हिन्दुओं का है।’’
जवाहर लाल नेहरू :- ‘‘नहीं यह देश कांग्रेस का है. . कांग्रेस जैसा चाहेगी वैसा होगा।’’
सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल :- ‘‘इतिहास बदलता रहता है, अंग्रेज भी जा रहे हैं फिर कांग्रेस की हस्ती ही क्या है ? मुस्लिम साढे सात सौ साल में गए, अंग्रेज 200 साल में गए और कांग्रेस 60-70 साल में चली जाएगी और लोग भूल जाएंगे।’’
जवाहर लाल नेहरू :- ‘‘ऐसा कभी नहीं होगा।’’
सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल :- ‘‘जरूर होगा, आप मुगल सोच त्याग दें।’’ कहकर पटेल ने रिक्शा चालक से कहा, ‘आप तेज चलिए, हम भी किस मूर्ख से जबान लडा बैठे !’

Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel: – “Nehru ji, Please come sit with me in this rickshaw, we shall go together!”
Jawaharlal Nehru: – “No Patel, I am talking to Khan Saheb on some important matter.”

Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel: – “May I know are that important thing?
Jawaharlal Nehru: – “He is insisting on going to Pakistan, we want him to stay in India.”
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel: – ” Why don’t you let him go, then what was the purpose of making Pakistan? ”

Jawaharlal Nehru: “That is Ok but with him five lakh Muslims also will go to Pakistan.”
Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel: – “Then let them also go.”
Jawaharlal Nehru: – “But Delhi will be empty.
Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel: – “Then there are a lot of Hindus coming from Lahore. Delhi will be filled with them.”

Jawaharlal Nehru: – “No, we will not give them Muslim houses, we will hand over Waqf board.”
Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel: “And what about the temples and DAV School in Lahore which has been occupied and renamed by Islamists?
Jawaharlal Nehru: – “Why should we worry Pakistan, we will make India a secular country.”

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel: – “But the partition of the country has been done on the basis of religion. Now it is Hindustan meant for Hindus. ”
Jawaharlal Nehru: – “No, this country belongs to the Congress. . The Congress will do what it wants. ”
Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel: “History keeps on changing. The Britishers are also going today, then where does Congress stands? Muslims went in seven hundred fifty years, the English went in 200 years and the Congress would go in 60-70 years and people will forget them too. ”

Jawaharlal Nehru: – “It will never happen.”
Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel: – “Surely it will happen, you should abandon the Mughal stereotype thinking.”

Patel said to the rickshaw driver, “Come on, lets move fast! Why did I engage in conversation with such a fool!”
