Cat as pets in India
Cats are beautiful and lovely. They are wonderful pets. However their popularity as pets differs from region to region in India. While Cats are very popular in Maharashtra and western parts of country while in North they are totally frowned upon as pets. Even upto the extent that they are even considered unlucky in North. Still cats are protected and not harmed even there also. Mostly because of Hindu scriptures say that punishment for killing a cat is to donate a cat made of gold. That would be quite costly affair.. So even if you do not like cats you won’t kill them. Provided if you can. Cats are very good at judging the mal intentions of people and keep a safe distance from humans in that part. South India and Eastern parts of country do not possess extreme views on the cats though.
