The Second Day Of Diwali-Narak Chaturdashi

The second day of Diwali is known as Narak Chaturdashi or Chhoti Diwali. This has been name dafter another great demon called Narakasura.

Narakasura was the son of Bhudevi.In Treta Yoga a powerful demon called  Hiranyaksha hid the earth (Bhudevi) in netherworld. Hiranyaksha was  killed by  Varahaavatar of Lord Vishnu .  Narakasura was  a very strong and had attained a boon from Lord Brahma that he would never be defeated by anyone other than his mother Earth. With time he became more and more arrogant to the extent the he abducted 16000 princesses of different kingdoms and kept them as slaves. He even defeated Lord Indra and snatched away the earrings of Demi-God Mother Aditi .

Till that time was Dwapar yuga and Lord Krishna was born in Mathura. He became a king of Dwaraka by then and had his wife Stayabhama, who was an incarnation of Bhudevi.  Aditi explained her suffering and atrocities of Narakasura to Satyabhama. Satyabhama was very distressed after hearing thia and asked Lord Krishna to punish Narakasura for his sins.

Krishna along with Stayabhama ( because she insisted) attacked Narakausra and killed his entire army and his most powerful general Mura. Narakasura was petrified but could not be killed by Krishna because of Boon from Brahma. He shot a  powerful weapon on Lord Krishna.Lord Kirshna swooned for a moment . Satyabhama got extremely angry on this and shot a powerful weapon of he own towards Narakasura. She immediately lunged towards Lord Krishna, just to be amazed that noting had happened to him and he was smiling at her. While her weapon had wounded Narakasura fatally.

Then Lord Krishna revealed that Satyabhama was an incarnation of Bhudevi and that’s why Narakasura was killed. Narakasura asked for forgiveness and died.

People celebrate Chhoti Diwali on this day to commemorate the victory of good over evil on this day .

This night is the 14th day of dark lunar fortnight and considered extremely powerful for Tantrik Sadhanas and anushthans.

The day is also called Rup Chaudas or Roop Chaturdashi
