Janaki Navami- Today is Mata Sita’s birth day

Today is the Vaishakha Shukla Navami (9th day of bright fortnight of Vaishakh month of Hindu Lunar calendar.). This day celebrated as Janaki Navami or Sita Navami. According to our religious scriptures Mata Sita appeared today from Earth.

According to mythological texts, , King Janaka of Mithila was ploughing the land in order to prepare it for perform a yajna to beget a child. It was the mid day of 9th of the bright fortnight of Vaishakha month,and Pushya constellation was in its mid phase in sky. Suddenly King Janak’s plough came to a halt. When they dug out, they found a small baby girl in a pitcher.

Since the freshly tilted land and the tip of the plough is also called ‘Sita’ in Sanskrit, hence the name of the girl was kept ‘Sita’. As Sitaji first appeared on Earth on this day that’s why it is called Sita Jayanti or Janaki jayanti (Jayanti=Birth).

It is believed that the person who keeps fast on this day and worships Ram-Sita with the proper procedure and devotion, he gets the merits of 16 great Donations,merit of Donation of entire Earth and the merit of visiting all the pilgrims.

On this day, it is beneficial to chant following auspicious mantras:

‘Shri Sitaayai Namah’ and ‘Shri Sita-Ramay Namah’,

Story of Sita/Janaki Navami Vrata

According to Puranas in ancient times , a very pious Barahamn used to live in in Marwar region. His name was Devadatta and he was a staunch follower of Vedas and was veryreligious. He had a very beautiful haughty wife. Her name was Shobhana. Brahmin went to some other village earning livelihood. Meanwhile Shobhana fell into bad company and indulged into adultery.

This could not remain secret and entire village condemning her adulterous behaviour. But that evil lady hatched a vicious plane and burnt the entire village. She left her husbadn continued to live the sinful life for the rest of her days. When she died she took birth into a Chandal’s house. She became a Chandalini as she left her husband. sacrificing her husband, she became Chandlini. For the sin of burning the village, she suffered from terrible leprosy and because of her adulterous conduct she also became blind. She had to reap the Karma for her misdeeds.

Thus, she started wandering in far off places, continuously suffering the sorrows because her past life bad karmas. Once fortunately, while wandering she reached Kaushalpuri city. Incidentally, on that day, it was 9th day of bright fortnight of Vaishakha month, capable of destroying all the sins.

The Chandilini was suffering from sever hunger and thirst . She began to crying for help on holy festival of Sita (Janaki), Navami, “O gentlemen! Kindly give me some food and water, please. I am dying of hunger”. While thus crying and seeking help the woman entered
pavilion with thousand pillars adorned with flowers situated in front of a Golden House.She again cried fro help,” Brother! Somebody help me – give me some food.”

One devotee replied, ” O Respected Lady! Today is Sita Navami, the person who gives grain on this day incurs great sin, hence the food will not be available today. Tomorrow morning we shall complete our fast and a lot of food will be distributed as Pradasm. But she did not agree and kept on asking for food.

When she persisted one devotee provided her some basil and water. But she could not survive and died that day. But unknowingly her fast of Sita Navami was completed and she got rid of all her bad Karmas.

Supreme Merciful Mother absolved her from all the sins. Due to the merits of of this fast, that Atma of sinful Chandalini beacme pure and remained in heaven for many years. Thereafter she became famous queen Kam Kala, wife of Maharaj Jay Singh of Kamrup country. But queen retained the memory of her previous births and in this birth she stayed away from sinful activities and made many temples of Janaki Raghunath in her kingdom.

Therefore, those who worship Mother Sita on Janaki Navami, receive all kinds of happiness and are blessed with good luck. On this day,, all the miseries of man are dispelled by reading the Janki Stotra, Ramchandrashtakam, Ramcharit Manas etc.

जानकी नवमी : आज है माता सीता का प्राकट्य दिवस

आज यानी 13 मई 2019 को माता जानकी का प्राकट्य दिवस है। 
वैशाख मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की नवमी को जानकी नवमी या सीता नवमी कहते हैं। धार्मिक ग्रंथों के अनुसार इसी दिन माता सीता का प्राकट्य हुआ था।

पौराणिक शास्त्रों के अनुसार वैशाख मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की नवमी को पुष्य नक्षत्र के मध्याह्न काल में जब महाराजा जनक संतान प्राप्ति की कामना से यज्ञ की भूमि तैयार करने के लिए हल से भूमि जोत रहे थे, उसी समय पृथ्वी से एक बालिका का प्राकट्य हुआ।

जोती हुई भूमि तथा हल के नोक को भी ‘सीता’ कहा जाता है, इसलिए बालिका का नाम ‘सीता’ रखा गया था। अत: इस पर्व को ‘जानकी नवमी’ भी कहते हैं। मान्यता है कि जो व्यक्ति इस दिन व्रत रखता है एवं राम-सीता का विधि-विधान से पूजन करता है, उसे 16 महान दानों का फल, पृथ्वी दान का फल तथा समस्त तीर्थों के दर्शन का फल मिल जाता है।

इस दिन माता सीता के मंगलमय नाम ‘श्री सीतायै नमः’ और ‘श्रीसीता-रामाय नमः’ का उच्चारण करना लाभदायी रहता है।

सीता नवमी की पौराणिक कथा ::

पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार मारवाड़ क्षेत्र में एक वेदवादी श्रेष्ठ धर्मधुरीण ब्राह्मण निवास करते थे। उनका नाम देवदत्त था। उन ब्राह्मण की बड़ी सुंदर रूपगर्विता पत्नी थी, उसका नाम शोभना था। ब्राह्मण देवता जीविका के लिए अपने ग्राम से अन्य किसी ग्राम में भिक्षाटन के लिए गए हुए थे। इधर ब्राह्मणी कुसंगत में फंसकर व्यभिचार में प्रवृत्त हो गई।

अब तो पूरे गांव में उसके इस निंदित कर्म की चर्चाएं होने लगीं। परंतु उस दुष्टा ने गांव ही जलवा दिया। दुष्कर्मों में रत रहने वाली वह दुर्बुद्धि मरी तो उसका अगला जन्म चांडाल के घर में हुआ। पति का त्याग करने से वह चांडालिनी बनी, ग्राम जलाने से उसे भीषण कुष्ठ हो गया तथा व्यभिचार-कर्म के कारण वह अंधी भी हो गई। अपने कर्म का फल उसे भोगना ही था।

इस प्रकार वह अपने कर्म के योग से दिनों दिन दारुण दुख प्राप्त करती हुई देश-देशांतर में भटकने लगी। एक बार दैवयोग से वह भटकती हुई कौशलपुरी पहुंच गई। संयोगवश उस दिन वैशाख मास, शुक्ल पक्ष की नवमी तिथि थी, जो समस्त पापों का नाश करने में समर्थ है।

सीता (जानकी) नवमी के पावन उत्सव पर भूख-प्यास से व्याकुल वह दुखियारी इस प्रकार प्रार्थना करने लगी- हे सज्जनों! मुझ पर कृपा कर कुछ भोजन सामग्री प्रदान करो। मैं भूख से मर रही हूं- ऐसा कहती हुई वह स्त्री श्री कनक भवन के सामने बने एक हजार पुष्प मंडित स्तंभों से गुजरती हुई उसमें प्रविष्ट हुई। उसने पुनः पुकार लगाई- भैया! कोई तो मेरी मदद करो- कुछ भोजन दे दो।

इतने में एक भक्त ने उससे कहा- देवी! आज तो सीता नवमी है, भोजन में अन्न देने वाले को पाप लगता है, इसीलिए आज तो अन्न नहीं मिलेगा। कल पारणा करने के समय आना, ठाकुर जी का प्रसाद भरपेट मिलेगा, किंतु वह नहीं मानी। अधिक कहने पर भक्त ने उसे तुलसी एवं जल प्रदान किया। वह पापिनी भूख से मर गई। किंतु इसी बहाने अनजाने में उससे सीता नवमी का व्रत पूरा हो गया।

अब तो परम कृपालिनी ने उसे समस्त पापों से मुक्त कर दिया। इस व्रत के प्रभाव से वह पापिनी निर्मल होकर स्वर्ग में आनंदपूर्वक अनंत वर्षों तक रही। तत्पश्चात् वह कामरूप देश के महाराज जयसिंह की महारानी काम कला के नाम से विख्यात हुई। जातिस्मरा उस महान साध्वी ने अपने राज्य में अनेक देवालय बनवाए, जिनमें जानकी-रघुनाथ की प्रतिष्ठा करवाई।

अत: सीता नवमी पर जो श्रद्धालु माता जानकी का पूजन-अर्चन करते है, उन्हें सभी प्रकार के सुख-सौभाग्य प्राप्त होते हैं। इस दिन जानकी स्तोत्र, रामचंद्रष्टाकम्, रामचरित मानस आदि का पाठ करने से मनुष्य के सभी कष्ट दूर हो जाते हैं।
