चैत्र शुक्ल एकादशी- कामदा/फलदा एकादशी
कामदा एकादशी जिसे फलदा एकादशी भी कहते हैं, श्री विष्णु का उत्तम व्रत कहा गया है। इस व्रत के पुण्य से जीवात्मा को पाप से मुक्ति मिलती है। यह एकादशी कष्टों का निवारण करने वाली और मनोनुकूल फल देने वाली होने के कारण फलदा और कामना पूर्ण करने वाली होने से कामदा कही जाती है।
कामदा एकादशी की कथा
धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर बोले, ” हे भगवान! मैं आपको कोटि-कोटि प्रणाम करता हूँ और निवेदन करता हूँ कि अब आप कृपा करके चैत्र मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी का महात्म्य कहिए।
श्री कृष्ण भगवान बोले, ” हे राजन! यही प्रश्न एक समय राजा दिलीप ने गुरु वशिष्ठ से किया था। राजा दिलीप ने पूछा- गुरुदेव! चैत्र मास की शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी का क्या नाम है? इसमे किस देवता की पूजा की जाती है तथा इसकी विधि क्या है? सो कहिए।
महर्षि वशिष्ठ बोले,” हे राजन! चैत्र मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी का नाम कामदा है। यह मनुष्य के सब पापों को नष्ट करने वाली है। इसके व्रत को करने से पुत्र की प्राप्ति होती है और कुयोनि छूट जाती है और अंत में स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति होती है।
श्री कृष्ण बोले,” हे धर्मराज! जो समाधान महर्षि वशिष्ठ ने किया था वही मैं तुमसे कहता हूँ।
प्राचीन काल में रत्नपुर नाम का एक नगर था। वहाँ पर अनेक ऐश्वर्यों से युक्त ऐश्वर्यशाली राजा पुंडरीक़ राज्य करता था। रत्नपुर में अनेक अप्सरा, गंधर्व तथा किन्नर वास करते थे। उसकी सभा में गंधर्व गायन करते थे। , अप्सरायें नृत्य करती थी। उनमे ललिता और ललित नाम के स्त्री पुरुष अत्यंत वैभवशाली भवन में निवास करते हुए विहार करते थे। उन दोनों में अत्यंत स्नेह था यहाँ तक की अलग अलग हो जाने पर दोनो व्याकुल हो जाते थे।
एक समय राजा पुंडरीक़ गंधर्वों सहित एक सभा में क्रीड़ा कर रहे थे। उस सभा में अन्य गन्धर्वों के साथ ललित भी गायन कर रहा था। उसकी प्रियतमा उस समय सभा में उपस्थित नही थी। गाते-गाते उसको अपनी प्रियतमा ललिता का ध्यान आ गया और उसके ध्यान में स्वर भंग होने के कारण गाने का स्वरूप बिगड़ गया। वह अशुद्ध गाना गाने लगा। ललित के मान का भाव जानकार नागराज कर्कोट ने पद भंग होने का कारण राजा से कह दिया। तब पुंडरीक़ ने क्रोध पूर्वक कहा कि, ” तू मेरे सामने गाता हुआ अपनी स्त्री का स्मरण कर रहा है। अतः तू कच्चा माँस और मनुष्यों को खाने वाला राक्षस बनकर अपने किए कर्मों का फल भोग।”
पुंडरीक़ के श्राप से ललित उसी क्षण महाकाय विकराल राक्षस बन गया। उसका शरीर आठ योजन का हो गया। उसका मुख अत्यंत भयंकर , नेत्र सूर्य-चंद्रमा की तरह प्रदीप्त तथा मुख से अग्नि निकालने लगी। सिर के बाल पर्वतों पर खड़े वृक्षों के समान लगाने लगे तथा भुजायें अत्यंत लंबी हो गयीं। उसके मुख से दुर्गंध निकालने लगी। इस प्रकार वह राक्षस होकर अनेक प्रकार के दुख भोगने लगा। उसको भोजन मिलना दूभर हो गया, वह भूख से व्याकुल हो गया।
जब उसकी प्रियतमा ललिता को यह सब वृतांत मालूम हुआ तो वह बहुत दुखी हुई। वह अपने पति के उद्धार के लिए सोचने लगी कि मैं कहाँ जाउँ , क्या यत्न करूँ? वह राक्षस अनेक प्रकार के दुख सहता घने वनों में रहने लगा। उसकी स्त्री भी उसके पीछे-पीछे घूमती विंध्याचल पर्वत पर चली गयी।
वहाँ पर शृंगी ऋषि का आश्रम था। ललिता आश्रम में गयी और विनीत भाव से ऋषि से प्रार्थना करने लगी। मुनि की शरण में जाकर अपने पति के उद्धार का उपाय पूछा।
उसे देखकर शृंगी ऋषि बोले,” हे सुभगे! तुम कौन हो और यहाँ किसलिए आई हो?”
ललिता बोली,” हे मुनि! मेरा नाम ललिता है। राजा पुंडरीक़ के श्राप से मेरा पति विशालकाय भयानक राक्षस हो गया है, इसका मुझे बड़ा भारी दुख है। आप राक्षस योनि से छूटने का कोई उपाय बतलाइए, जिससे उनका उद्धार हो।”
शृंगी ऋषि बोले,” हे गंधर्व कन्या! चैत्र शुक्ल एकादशी आने वाली है, जिसका नाम कामदा एकादशी है। उसका व्रत करने से मनुष्य के सब कार्य सिद्ध होते हैं। यदि तुम कामदा एकादशी का व्रत करो और उसका पुण्यफ़ल अपने पति को अर्पण कर दे तो वह शीघ्र ही राक्षस योनि से मुक्त हो जाएगा और राजा का श्राप भी शांत हो जाएगा।”
मुनि के वचनों को सुनकर ललिता ने चैत्र मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी आने पर उसका व्रत किया और द्वादशी को ब्राह्मणों के सामने अपने व्रत का फल अपने पति को देते हुए भगवान से इस प्रकार से प्रार्थना करने लगी,” हे प्रभो! मैने जो यह व्रत किया है, इसका फल मेरे पातिदेव को प्राप्त हो , जिससे वह राक्षस योनि से मुक्त हो जायें। “
ललिता ने कामदा एकादशी के व्रत के दिन , रात्रि को जागरण किया, दीप जलाए, प्रभु के गुण गाए, प्रातः ब्राह्मणो को दक्षिणा देकर भोजन खिलाया, फिर उनकी परिक्रमा कर पद-पद से आश्वमेध यज्ञ का फल लिया। ब्राह्मणों के सामने पति के अर्पण संकल्प कर दिया। एकादशी का फल देते ही उसका पति राक्षस योनि से छूट गया और अपने पुराने स्वरूप को प्राप्त हुआ। फिर अनेक सुंदर वस्त्राभूषणों से युक्त होकर ललिता के साथ विहार करने लगा। कामदा एकादशी के प्रभाव से वे पूर्व की भाँति सुंदर होकर पुष्पक विमान में बैठकर स्वर्ग को चले गये।
वशिष्ठ मुनि बोले,” हे राजन! इस व्रत को विधिपूर्वक करने से समस्त पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं। इसके व्रत से मनुष्य ब्रह्महत्या इत्यादि पाप और राक्षस जैसी योनि से छूट जाते हैं। संसार में इसके बराबर कोई दूसरा व्रत नही है। परोपकारी विष्णु भक्त न केवल अपना जीवन सुधारता है, अपितु भगवान विष्णु की कृपा से अन्य व्यक्तियों का भी कष्ट दूर करता है। हे राजन! कामदा एकादशी का व्रत करने वाला परोपकारी विष्णु भक्त हो जाता है। इसकी कथा पढ़ने या सुनने से वाजपेय यज्ञ का फल प्राप्त होता है।”
कामदा एकादशी की व्रत विधि
एकादशी के दिन स्नानादि से पवित्र होने के पश्चात संकल्प करके श्री विष्णु के विग्रह की पूजन करें। विष्णु को फूल, फल, तिल, दूध, पंचामृत आदि नाना पदार्थ निवेदित करें। आठों प्रहर निर्जल रहकर विष्णु जी के नाम का स्मरण एवं कीर्तन करें। एकादशी व्रत में ब्राह्मण भोजन एवं दक्षिणा का बड़ा ही महत्व है अत: ब्राह्मण को भोजन करवाकर दक्षिणा सहित विदा करने के पश्चात ही भोजना ग्रहण करें। इस प्रकार जो चैत्र शुक्ल पक्ष में एकादशी का व्रत रखता है उसकी कामना पूर्ण होती है।
Chaitra Shukla Ekadashi-Kamada-Falada Ekadashi
Kamada Ekadashi, also known as Falada Ekadashi, is said to be the one of the best Varats of Shri Vishnu. The observers gets freedom from sin by the merits of this fast. Kamada ekadashi not only relieves you of your miseries but also grants your wishes, that’s why it is called Kamada (Kama=wish, Da=Granting) & since it renders the fruits pf your fast readily, that is why it is called Falada( Fal=Fruit, Da=Grants). The observer of Falada Ekadashi is definitely rewarded with good results.
Story of Kamada Ekadashi
Dharmaraj Yudhishtir said, “O Lord, I bow to you with a great amount of praise and request that now you should say the greatness of the Ekadashi of the bright fortnight (Shukla paksha) of Chaitra month.
Shri Krishna God said, “O Rajan, this question was once asked by King Dilip to Guru Vashishtha. Raja Dilip asked,” Gurudev, what is the name of Ekadashi of the Shukla paksha of Chaitra month? Which God is worshiped in this and What is its procedure? Please tell us.”
Maharshi Vashishth said, “O Rajan, the name of Ekadashi of the Shukla party of Chaitra month is Kamada, it destroys all the sins of observer. By doing this fast, one begets a son. Person gets freedom from the lowly incarnation. And finally he achieves heaven in his afterlife.”
Shri Krishna said, “O Dharmaraj! I will tell you the same solution, which was told by Maharishi Vashishta.”
There was a town named Ratnapur in ancient times. There, the mighty king Pundareek, who was endowed with great wealth, ruled without any enemies . Many celestials beings, Apsaras(celestial female dancers), Gandharva(celestial singers) and Kinnar(celestials artists) used to live in Ratnapur too. Gandharvas used to sing in his assembly. Nymphs used to dance. Among them, Lalita and Lalit Gandharvas used to live in a very beautiful house. Both of them had great affection of each other. They both became distraught, even when they were separated for a short time also.
Once upon a time King Pundareek arranged an assembly of Gandharvas. Lalit was also singing with other Gandharvas in that gathering. His beloved,Lalita was not present at the assembly at that time.While singing, the thought of his beloved Lalita kept one hovering his mind, and due to this the rhythm of the song altered. His singing became discordant. Nagraj Karkot instantly assessed that Lalit was thinking about his beloved Lalita and thus was not able to concentrate on his singing. He immediately told the Pundareek the reason behind Lalit’s discordant singing. Kind Pundareek got angry and said, “Lalit, You are remembering your woman singing in front of me and making a fund of everyone here by your unharmonious singing.Your behaviour is unbecoming of assembly of celestial beings. Therefore, you become a man eating demon and eat raw meat, wandering in forests. You must face the punishment for your actions.”
Lalit immediately became a huge fierce monster due to the curse of King Pundareek. His body became miles tall. His handsome face became horrendous now. His eyes lit up like a sun-moon and were raging like burning fire. The hair of the head stood like trees standing on the mountains and the arms became very very long. His mouth began to stench with foul smell. His appearance became unbearable now. Thus he became a monster and began to wander in forests and suffer many kinds of sorrows. He could not find got enough food for his huge body. He became distraight with his unappeased hunger.
When his beloved Lalita came to know about the plight of her beloved, she was shattered. She started thinking about deliverance of her husband. Where should I go? What should I do? Lalit , now a monster lived in dense forests and was going through a lot of miseries. Her beloved Lalita also went wandering behind him on Vindhyachal Mountains.
There was holy heritage of Shringi Rishi’s on Vindhyachal mountains. Lalita went to Rishi’s ashram and prayed to the sage in a very humble manner. She asked for the remedy for her husband’s deliverance from the curse.
Looking at the plight of Lalita, Shringi Rishi asked, “O Subhaga (One with good luck)! Who are you and why have you come here?”
Lalita replied, “O Muni! My name is Lalita.My husband has become a terrible monster by the curse of King Pundareek, it is a great misfortune befallen upon me. I request you to kindly tell me some solution to get him rid of his monster embodiment.We are under you refuge.Kindly save us.”
Shringi Rishi said, “O Gandharva Kanya! Chaitra Shukla Ekadashi is going to come, whose name is Kamada Ekadashi. All the wishes of humans are fulfilled by doing his fast. If you perform a vow of Kamada Ekadashi and give the merits attained by this fast to your husband. then he will soon be free from the monster’s embodiment, and the curse of the king Pundareek will also become nullified. “
Taking notes of Rishi Shringi’s advice, Lalita observed the fast of Ekadashi of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month and gave the merits attained by her fast to his husband, in front of Brahmans, saying, “O Lord! I have fasted, and give the merits to my husband, so that he can be free from from his monster embodiment. “
Lalita fasted, remained awake and kept night vigil on Kamada Ekadashi. She lit the lamp whole night, sang the praises of the Lord. Next day morning she offered food to the Brahmans, honoured them by dakshina, then after doing circumambulation, she asked for the merit for Ashwamedha yajna fror her every step of circumambulation.
She took the vowed to grant the merit of her fast to her husband in front of Brahmins. Thus receiving the merits of her Ekadashi vrata, Lalit got rid of the monster embodiment and regained his old form. He was adorned with beautiful garments, jewels & garlands. He met with his beloved Lalita again. Due to the merits of Kamada Ekadashi, he became beautiful as before and along with his wife Lalita, sat in the Pushpak plane and went to heaven.
Vashishtha Muni said, “O Rajan, by practicing this fast of Kamada Ekadashi, all sins are destroyed. By its vow, human beings are absolved from the sin of killing a Brahman and get rid of from the embodiments of monster etc. There is no other vrata equivalent of this in the world. Not only it improves your life, but by the grace of Lord Vishnu, the observer also eliminates the suffering of other people too. O Rajan! The observer of this fast become Lord Vishnu devotee.Anyone who reads of listens this story gets the merit of Vajapeya yajna. “
Kamada Ekadashi Vrata Procedure
The devotee should take bath in early morning on Ekadashi .After this he should take resolution of observing the fast bh taking taking the water in hands and stating the his name, time ,place and duration of fast.
After the resolution(sankalpa) he should worship Lord Vishnu by Shodashopachara procedure. Offer Lord Vishnu various fruits , flowers, , sesame seeds, milk, panchamrita etc. Stay without food or water for till next morning.(Old age and sick or children can take fruits and water though).
In Ekadashi fast, offering food & Dakshina to Brahmanas are of great significance; therefore next day morning, take food only after feeding the Brahman and giving him dakshina.
If the person observes Chaitra Shukla Kamada Ekadashi like the above mentioned procedure, his desires are fulfilled.
