Holi in Shmashan- Kashi

‘Masane Holi’ as it is popularly called in Kashi, is played with the ashes from cremation pyre in Kashi Mahashashan Varanasi..

Kashi, the oldest city of the world, has some such practices which are unique in itself. People shred with fear upon hearing the name of cremation ground or funeral pyre. But the in the great ancient pilgrimage of of Varanasi, devotees of Baba Bholenath play with ashes among the burning funeral pyres. This unique tradtion of great ancient Varanasi is very unique.

Devotees play Holi with the funeral pyre ashes, ‘Abir’ and ‘Gulal’ colors. From morning itself, the devotees were very enthusiastic about the Holi of masane. On one side there was a pyre on the Manikarnika Ghat and on the other side, devotees of Baba Vishwanath were playing Holi with the ashes of the pyre. In the cremation ground, fire on the one side of the funeral pyre was coming out, and on the other side, Abir and Gulal were flying with the ashes of the pyre. The entire ghat became resonant with the slogan of Har Har Mahadev being chanted by Baba’s devotees It became such an avenue to celebrate Holi at Manikarnika Ghat, It seemed that Baba Vishwanath himself was playing Holi with his devotees.

वाराणसी । दुनिया की सबसे पुरानी नगरी काशी में कुछ ऐसी प्रथा है जो अपने आप में अनोखी है । शमशान का नाम सुनते ही लोगों के मन में घबराहट होती है लेकिन बनारस के महान मठ में बाबा भालनाथ के भक्त चिता भस्म से खेलते हैं होली शिव की नगरी काशी की बड़ा ही निराला है ।

महाशमशान घाट पर मसाने की होली में अबीर और गुलाल चिता से खेलते हैं भक्तगण । सुबह से ही भक्तों में मस्से की होली पर बहुत उत्साह था । इधर मणिकर्णिका घाट पर चिता थी उधर चिता की भस्म से बाबा विश्वनाथ के भक्त खेल रहे थे । शमशान में चिता की एक तरफ आग निकल रही थी, उधर अबीर और गुलाल चिता की राख लेकर उड़ रहे थे । बाबा के भक्तों द्वारा लगाए गए हर हर महादेव के नारे से पूरा घाट गूंज उठा । मणिकर्णिका घाट पर होली मनाने का ऐसा परिदृश्य उपस्थित हो गया मानो , ऐसा लगा बाबा विश्वनाथ खुद अपने भक्तों के साथ होली खेल रहे थे ।
