हमारे देश में एकादशी व्रत का बहुत बड़ा महत्व माना गया है| ऐसा माना जाता है की एकादशी का व्रत पापों से छुटकारा पाने और स्वयं को अध्यात्मिक धरातल के उच्च शिखर पर पहुचने के लिए लिए सबसे सुलभ उपाय है| एकादशी  का व्रत की एक बहुत बड़ी विशेषता यह भी है की यह बहुत कम साधनो में भी किया जा सकता है | इसलिए ग़रीब और धनिक, सभी व्यक्ति इसे आसानी से कर सकते हैं| एकादशी के व्रत में सबसे बड़ी कसौटी होती है श्रद्धा , विश्वास ,प्रभु की भक्ति, और  सात्विक  भाव से निष्पाप राहते हुए  व्रत और प्रभु के भजन सहित रात्रि जागरण| याद दो शब्दो में कहे तो सात्त्विक उपवास और रात्रि जागरण | एकादशी की कथायें स्वयं इस व्रत की सरल प्रक्रिया को स्पष्ट करती हैं|

धार्मिक हिंदू जनो के घर में अक्सर बड़े-बूढ़े एकादशी का उल्लेख करते सुने जा सकते हैं| घर में सात्त्विक वातावरण बनाने के लिए और हर प्रकार के कष्टों से निवारण के लिए एकादशी का व्रत किया जाता है| यह संसारिक भोग के साथ मोक्ष भी प्रदान करने वाला है| इसलिए गृहस्थ तो क्या सन्यासी भी एकादशी का व्रत रखते हैं| यह तथ्य एकादशी व्रत की सार्वभौमिक महत्व को दर्शाता है और यह प्रमाणित करता है की एकादशी का व्रत ना क्वेल संसारिक सुखों हेतु अपितु अध्यात्मिक उत्थान हेतु भी बड़ा उपयोगी है|

हर महीने में दो एकादशियाँ होती हैं, और हर एकादशी का विशेष महत्व होता है और एक विशिष्ट फल प्रदान करने वाली होती है|फाल्गुन मास की कृष्ण पक्ष की एकादशी की को विजया एकादशी कहते हैं| विजया एकादशी महान पुण्य देने वाली और नये वा पुराने पापों से छुटकारा दिलाने वाली तथा व्रती को विजय दिलाने में समर्थ मानी गयी है|

विजया एकादशी के कथा के अनुसार धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर भगवान श्री कृष्ण से  फाल्गुन कृष्ण एकादशी के बारे में पूछते हैं | भगवान श्री कृष्ण कहते उन्हे बताते हैं कि फाल्गुन कृष्ण एकादशी विजया एकादशी के नाम से जानी जाती है| यह कथा हमेशा से गुप्त थी और नारद जी के पूछने पर श्री ब्रह्मा जी ने इस व्रत की प्रक्रिया को पहली बार प्रकट किया था| विजया एकादशी का व्रत करने से व्यक्ति व्यक्ति को विजय की प्राप्ति होती है।

विजया एकादशी का महत्व इसी बात से स्पष्ट हो जाता है स्वयं प्रभु श्री राम ने इस व्रत को करके ना केवल समुद्र पर सेतु बनाने जैसे अकल्पनीय कार्य तो पूर्ण किया वरन् लंका जैसे अजेय नगर पर विजय भी प्राप्त की| इसीलिए जब भी जीवन में कोई बहुत कठिन कार्य करना हो या बहुत बड़े शत्रु का सामना करना हो तो विजया एकादशी का व्रत विधि पूर्वक कर लेना चाहिए| विजया एकादशी के शक्तिशाली प्रभाव से ना केवल दुर्गम कार्य भी सिद्ध होंगे वरण , बड़े से बड़े शत्रु पर भी विजय प्राप्त होगी|

विजया  एकादशी की कथा:

जया एकादशी की कथा सुनने के बाद धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर बोले.” हे जनार्दन! फाल्गुन मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की एकादशी का क्या नाम है तथा उसकी विधि क्या है? कृपा पूर्वक कहिए?

श्री कृष्ण भगवान बोले,” हे राजन्! फाल्गुन मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की एकादशी का नाम विजया एकादशी है| इसके व्रत के प्रभाव से मनुष्य को विजय की प्राप्ति होती है| यह सब व्रतों से उत्तम व्रत है| इस विजया एकादशी के महात्म्य के श्रवण व पाठन से सब पाप नष्ट हो जाते हैं|

हे धर्मराज! एक समय देवर्षी नारद जी ने जगतपिता ब्रह्मा जी से कहा ,” महाराज ! एकादशी व्रत का बड़ा महात्म्य कहा गया है|आप मुझे फाल्गुन मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की विजया एकादशी का विधान कहिए| “

ब्रह्माजी बोले,” हे नारद! विजया एकादशी का व्रत पुराने तथा नये पापों का नाश करने वाला है| यह समस्त मनुष्यों को विजय प्रदान करता है| इस विजया एकादशी की विधि मैने आज तक किसी से नही कही| तुम्हारे पूछने पर संसार की भलाई के लिए अब कहता हूँ| यह व्रत करने वाले को विजय प्रदान करती है| मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम श्री राम ने इसी व्रत के प्रभाव से लंका को विजय किया था | त्रेता युग में मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम श्री राम चंद्र जी को जब चौदह वर्ष का वनवास हो गया तो वे पिता की आज्ञा से भाई लक्ष्मण तथा सीताजी सहित पॅंचवटी में निवास करने लगे| वहाँ पर दुष्ट रावण ने सीताजी का धोखे से हरण किया तो श्री राम चंद्र जी अत्यंत व्याकुल हो गये| श्री रामचंद्र जी लक्ष्मण के साथ सीताजी की खोज में चल दिए| घूमते -घूमते जब वे मरणासन्न जटायु के पास पहुँचे तो जटायु ने उन्हे सीताजी का वृतांत सुनाया | रावण के हाथों घायल जटायु ने श्री राम की गोद में प्राण त्यागे और स्वर्ग प्राप्त किया|

तत्पश्चात श्री राम जी की मित्रता सुग्रीव से हुई और उन्होने बाली का वध किया| हनुमंजी ने लंका में जाकर सीताजी का पता लगाया | वहाँ से लौटकर हनुमान जी श्री रामचंद्र जी के पास आए और सब समाचार बताया | श्री रामचंद्र जी ने वानर सेना सहित सुग्रीव की सम्मति से लंका की ओर प्रस्थान किया| जब श्री राम चंद्र जी समुद्र के किनारे पहुँचे तो उन्होने देखा की समुद्र तो मगरमच्छ आदि भीषण जीव जंतुओं से युक्त है, उस अगाध समुद्र को पार करना कठिन है | तब उन्होने लक्ष्मण जी को कहा की हम इस अगाध समुद्र को कैसे पार कर सकेंगे? फिर रावण पर हमारी विजय कैसे होगी?

लक्ष्मण जी ने कहा,” हे पुराण पुरुष! आप आदि पुरुष हैं , आप सब कुछ जानते हैं| यहाँ से आधा योजन की दूरी पर कुमारी द्वीप में वकदालभ्य नाम के मुनि रहते हैं| उन्होने अनेक ब्रह्मा देखे हैं| आप उनके पास जाकर इसका उपाय पूछिए| “

लक्ष्मण जी के इस प्रकार वचन सुन कर प्रभु राम चंद्र जी वकदालभ्य ऋषि के पास आए और उनको प्रणाम करके बैठ गये| मुनि ने मनुष्य रूप धारण किए हुए पुराण पुरुषोत्तम से पूछा,” आपका आना कैसे हुआ?” रामचंद्र जी कहने लगे, ” हे महर्षि, ” मैं अपनी सेना सहित यहाँ आया हूँ और राक्षसों को जीतने के लिए लंका जा रहा हूँ| आप कृपा करके समुद्र पार करने का कोई उपाय बताइए| मैं इस कारण आपके पास आया हूँ| समुद्र पार करने पर ही मैं विजय पा सकता हूँ|

वकदालभ्य ऋषि बोले, ” हे राम ! मैं आपको एक उत्तम व्रत बतलाता हूँ| फाल्गुन मास के कृष्ण पक्ष की एकादशी का व्रत करने से निश्चय ही आपकी विजय होगी| साथ ही आप समुद्र भी पार कर लेंगे| इस व्रत की विधि बहुत सधारण है| दशमी के दिन एक स्वर्ण,चाँदी, तांबा या मिट्टी का एक घड़ा मंगायें| उस घड़े को जल से भरकर तथा उस पर पंच-पल्लव रख कर वेदिका पर स्थापित करें| घड़े के नीचे सप्त धान्य और उपर जौ रखें | उस पर श्री नारायण भगवान की मूर्ति स्थापित करें| एकादशी के दिन स्नान आदि से निवृत्त हो कर धूप , दीप, नैवेद्य और नारियल आदि से भगवान की पूजा करें| तत्पश्चात श्रीमान्नारायण भगवान के मूर्ति युक्त घड़े के सामने बैठ कर दिन भर भजन में व्यतीत करें और रात्रि में भी कीर्तन भजन कर रात्रि जागरण करें| द्वादशी के दिन नदी या तालाब के किनारे स्नान आदि नित्यकर्मों से निवृत्त होकर उस घड़े को किसी ब्राह्मण को दे दें|  हे श्री राम यदि आप भी इस व्रत को सेनापतियों सहित करेंगे तो आपकी विजय अवश्य होगी|

श्री राम जी से ऋषि के कथनानुसार विधि पूर्वक विजया एकादशी का व्रत किया और इसके प्रभाव से दैत्यों पर विजय पाई| अतः हे युधिष्ठिर! जो कोई भी मनुष्य विधि पूर्वक इस व्रत को करते है, उसे दोनो लोकों में अवश्य विजय प्राप्त होती है| श्री ब्रह्माजी ने नारद जी से कहा,” हे पुत्र! जो कोई इस व्रत के महात्म्य को पढ़ता या सुनता है उसको वाजपेय यज्ञ के फल की प्राप्ति होती है| विजया एकादशी के व्रत के प्रभाव से उसको अनंत फल मिलता है| इस प्रकार श्री कृष्ण जी ने सम्राट युधिष्ठिर को विजया एकादशी के व्रत के महात्म्य को बताया|

व्रत विधि:

विजया एकादशी के दिन जगदीश्वर भगवान नारायण की पूजा की जाती है हैं। जो श्रद्धालु भक्त विजया एकादशी का व्रत रखने के इच्छुक होते हैं उन्हें दशमी तिथि से को सात्विक आहार करना चाहिए। दशमी के दिन एक स्वर्ण,चाँदी, तांबा या मिट्टी का एक घड़ा मंगायें| उस घड़े को जल से भरकर तथा उस पर पंच-पल्लव रख कर वेदिका पर स्थापित करें| घड़े के नीचे सप्त धान्य (उड़द, मूंग, गेहूं, चना, जौ, चावल और बाजरा ) और उपर जौ रखें | उस पर श्री नारायण भगवान की मूर्ति स्थापित करें|

विजया एकादशी के दिन स्नान आदि से निवृत्त हो कर, श्री विष्णु का ध्यान करके संकल्प करें | धूप , दीप, नैवेद्य और नारियल आदि से भगवान की पूजा करें| विजया एकादशी की व्रत कथा (उपर दी हुई है) अवश्य पढ़ें| भगवान की षोड़शोपचार पूजा करें! तत्पश्चात श्रीमन्नारायण भगवान के मूर्ति युक्त घड़े के सामने बैठ कर दिन भर भजन में व्यतीत करें और रात्रि में भी कीर्तन भजन कर रात्रि जागरण करें|पूरे दिन व्रत रखें और रात्रि में भी व्रत रखकर जागरण करें। द्वादशी के दिन नदी या तालाब के किनारे स्नान आदि नित्यकर्मों से निवृत्त होकर उस घड़े को किसी ब्राह्मण को दे दें|

एकादशी के दिन कम से कम दो बार पूजा , सुबह और शाम को अवश्य करें| द्वादशी के दिन प्रातः पुनः पूजा करके ब्राह्मण को दान , भोजन और दक्षिणा देकर ही स्वयं अन्न ग्रहण करें|द्वादशी के दिन भी सामिष(माँसाहारी) भोजन से बचें|

After listening to the the story of Jaya Ekadashi ,Dharmraj Yudhisthir said.” O Janardan! What is the name of ekadashi  falling in the dark fortnight of Falgun month. What is the procedure to observe this? Kindly tell us in detail in detail

Bhagawan Shri Krishn said ,” He King ! The ekadashi falling in dark fortnight of Falgun lunar month Is known as  Vijaya ekadashi hai| The observer achieves victory over his enemies because of Vijaya ekadashi’s powerful influence. Vijaya ekadashi vrat is superior amongst all vrats. Just by listening to the glory of  Vijaya ekadashi obliterates a lot of sins.

O the champion of the cause of Dharma(Dharmaraj)! EOnce  devarshi Narad ji asked the father of word Shri Brahma ji  ,” Maharaj ! The gory of Ekadashi vrat has been extolled immensely by everyone.Kindly tell me the procedure of Falgun Krishn ekadashi.

Brahmaji said,” O Narada! Vijaya Ekadashi obliterates the sins of old and new sins. Vijaya ekadashi vrata  as implied by its name Vijay(Vijay=Victory) provides victory . I have never revealed about this vrata and procedure to anyone till now. However I am telling you now for the benefit of mankind.  Vijaya ekadashi vrata provides victory  to the observer. |The Best among man, the upholder of morality and virtues(Maryada Purushottam) Lord Shri Ram achieved victory due to powerful influence of this vrata of Vijaya Ekadashi.

In Treta eon  Maryada Purushottam Lord Shri Ramchandra ji  was exiled due to cunningness of queen Kaikeyi and per the orders of his father, he started living in Panchavati forest with is wife SItaji and brother Lakshman.  Evil demon king  Ravana abducted Mata Sitaji by treachery. Prabhu Shri Ram chandra ji was xtremely agonised by this.Lord  Shri Ramachandr ji started the search for Mata SIta along with his brother Lakshmana. They found vulture Jataayu on his death bed counting his last moments. Jataayu fought to save Mata Sita and was mortally wounded in the fight he ensued with ravan. Jatayu told about Mata SIta to Lord Shri Ram. After this Jatayu took his last breath in the arms of Lord Shri Ram and attained Moksha.

Thereafter Lord Shri Ram befriended Sugreev by killing Bali and thus saving Sugreev’s life and making him King of Kishkindha again. Lord Hanuman went in search of Mata Sita ,flying over the ocean and found Mata Sita in Lanka. Shri Hanuman ji returned from there and told the news to Lord Shri Ram. Lord Shri ram took Sugreev and his army and proceeded towards Lanka. When Shri Ram ji reached the sea shore he found that the sea is full of crocodiles, reptiles, big fishes and all kinds of dangerous animals. It would be difficult to cross the ocean. Then he asked his brother Lakshman,”How do we cross this big sea ? And if how would we achieve victory if cant;t cross this ocean?

Shri Lakshman ji said,” O the only one mentioned in ancient Puranas! You are the first Manifestation of formless  and has been here forever ! You know everything and yet you ask us to render us glory. There is a great Rishi(Sage) living just half a yojana(..) from here in Kumari island .His name is Vakdalabhya .He has seen many Brahmas(the creators- This means he has lived through many cycles of creations and destruction, each having a separate Brahma-the creator). Kindly go to him and ask He would tell us the right solution.

Following the advice of Shri Lakshman Lord Shri Ram chandr ji came to Rishi Vak daalabhy  .He paid his obescience to Rishi and sat down. Muni asked the Puran purushottam who was discuised as a human,” What has brought you here my Lord?”Lord Shri Ram chandr ji said, ” O Great Sage , ” I have come here with my army and going to Lanka to defeat the demons. We seek your wise  guidance. Kindly tell us how do cross this vast ocean?This is the reason which has brought me here. We can get victory over demons  only if we cross the ocean.

Rishi Vakdaalabhy  was full aware that Lord Shri Ram was almighty God himself and had incarnated as human being and now enacting as a role-model for the world.He was Puran Purushottama Lord himself . Rishi said, ” O Lord Shri Ram ! I will tell you about the  most exalted vrata of all vratas.You will be able to gain victory and achieve eternal glory by observing the fast of dark fortnight of Falgun month. You will also be able to cross over the ocean The procedure of this vrata is very simple.

Bring a pitcher on the day of Dashami. Fill pitcher with water and keep Panch Pallav(Five leaves-Usually mango tree leaves) and place it on a holy altar (Vedika- made of sand and a some clay) . Put  seven grains(Sapt Dhanya- barley, wheat, rice, corn, chickpeas, kukani, and dahl or peas). Place a murti(figurine) of Lord Narayana above the pitcher.

On the day of ekadashi after taking bath , worship Lord Narayana with incense(dhoop), lamp(deep), naivedy(fruits  will also do well) & coconut etc. You can also do Sodashopachaar pooja. Thereafter spend your day chanting bhajans of Lord in front of holy pitcher with Lord  Shriman Narayan bhagwan murti on it. Stay awake at night also  chanting the names and singing praises  of Lord Narayana and observing the fast throughout the Vijaya ekadashi.

On next day of Dwadashi , after taking bath etc, donate this pitcher to some holy Brahmana nearby a river , pond or huge water body like ocean etc.  Please Brahmana with gifts and money etc and offer him food and then you can break your fast too. Listen O Lord Shri Ram, if you observe  this vart with your generals then yo will surely attain victory.

Lord Shri Ram ji observed the Vijaya Ekadashi vrat as directed by Rishi Vakdalabhya and achieved victory over demons. Therefore O King Yudhisthira , whoever performs this Vijaya Ekadashi vrata with full procedure they attain victory in both the worlds. Shri Brahmaji said to Narad ji ,” Dear Son ! Whoever reads or listens the glory of this Vijaya Ekadashi vrata they achieve the merit of doing  Vajapeya yajna (an act of havan with holy rituals). Vijaya ekadashi grants them infinite merit.” Thus Lord Krishna told Yudhisthira about the glory of Vijaya Ekadashi.

Vijaya Ekadashi Vrata Procedure:

Lord of the universe Shri Narayana is worshipped on Vijaya Ekadashi.Those who wish to observe Vijaya ekadashi fast , they should take simple non spicy pure veg food on a day before on Dashami.

Bring a pitcher on the day of Dashami. Fill pitcher with water and keep Panch Pallav(Five leaves-Usually mango tree leaves) and place it on a holy altar (Vedika- made of sand and a some clay) . Put  seven grains (Sapt Dhanya :: Urad-Black Lentil (its black when not dehusked , It’s white when husk is removed),Moong-Mung bean/Green gram ,Gehoon-Wheat,Chana-Chickpeas,Jau-Barley,Bajara-Pearl Millet,Chawal/Dhaan-Rice) below pitcher and a bowl filled with Jau(Barley) above pitcher mouth. Place a murti(figurine) of Lord Narayana above the pitcher on Jau(Barley).

On the day of  Vijaya  ekadashi after taking bath , worship Lord Narayana with incense(dhoop), lamp(deep), naivedy (fruits  will also do well) & coconut etc. You can also do Sodashopachaar pooja. Make sure to recite the story of Vijaya Ekadashi after pooja. Thereafter spend your day chanting bhajans of Lord in front of holy pitcher with Lord  Shriman Narayan bhagwan murti on it. Stay awake at night also  chanting the names and singing praises  of Lord Narayana and observing the fast throughout the Vijaya ekadashi.

Devotees observing Ekadashi should worship at least two times in morning and evening on Ekadashi day . Next day on Dwadashi they should worship gain and donate to Brahman, offer him food and money and then only they should take food. Try and avoid non-veg food even on Dwadashi asy as well.
